This is a " Woman size " cloth and measures 73" x 46" (185 cm x 117 cm). The cloth was hand woven in the 1970s and is in good condition with the exception of 3 repairs, few small size holes, some stains and some wear due to usage and age. Kente is an ASHANTI / ASANTE (Ghana - West Africa) Ceremonial cloth that is hand woven on a horizontal treadle loom. The strips are sewn together into larger pieces of cloths.It takes from several weeks to months for a weaver to complete a cloth like this depending of the design and size! Kente is more than just a cloth but is a visual representation of history, ethics , oral literature , philosophy , moral values and religious beliefs. The Kente cloths history goes back to the 17th Century. In present days is still used as a cloth in Ghana but is also used by collectors of fine woven cloths and artifacts as Wall hanging , sofa or bed covering! A real piece of Authentic African art!
