This is a " Woman size " cloth and measures 74" (188 cm) x 44" (112 cm). The cloth is in excellent condition with minor stains and wear due to usage and age.
Kente is an EWE (Ghana - Volta Region) Ceremonial cloth that is hand woven on a horizontal treadle loom. The strips are sewn together into larger pieces of cloths. It takes from several weeks to months for a weaver to complete a cloth like this depending of the design and size! Kente is more than just a cloth but is a visual representation of history, ethics , oral literature , philosophy , moral values and religious beliefs. The Kente cloths history goes back to the 17th Century.
